This piece is about what you do when you’ve achieved what you’ve set out to achieve.
After around a year of constantly pushing my compositional practice in directions which were often challenging, unfamiliar and daunting, and as a result producing work I never thought I would have been able to produce, I felt really happy with who I was as a composer. I reached a point where I was able to say what I wanted to say in a way that makes sense to me and other people.
Moving forward, I felt I needed to ask myself what’s there in the times when the pressure from myself and other sources isn’t there to push me to achieve things I haven’t achieved before; what happens when I just want to write a piece of music?
For string trio.
